To become an adoptive parent there are a few basic requirements that you need to meet:

  • You do not have to be married to adopt. Applicants may be single, married, partnered, divorced, widowed or legally separated.
  • Home ownership is not necessary.
  • There are no set income requirements - adoptive applicants need to show they can meet their family’s basic needs.
  • The adoptive applicant and the child do not have to be the same race, color or of the same national origin.
  • Your home must be safe, clean and have sufficient space to accommodate children.
  • You must attend an orientation meeting and all training sessions.
  • You must satisfactorily complete a Family Home Study.
  • You must comply with all Title XXII State of California, Los Angeles County and NALCS regulations.
  • All members of the household, as well as those caring for the child or children, must pass a criminal record clearance.
